1. What is your favourite part about working for the-upside.ca?
I have always loved consignment. My favourite thing to do when I travel is to stop by a shop in New York, San Francisco or LA to see what gem I might find. It is exciting! And it really is one of kind. Not always able to afford luxury, consignment allowed me to obtain it. My first designer piece was at 16.
I feel as though my life has prepared me for this time. The combined knowledge from all the years in fashion at Holt Renfrew, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Marni I have a great love and respect for designer items. It is wearable art. I love to wrap each item with care so when you receive it you are receiving a gift
2. If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?
To see the future and win the Lotto of course!
3. If you could move anywhere in the world without money being an issue, where would you move and why?
Vancouver, I will always be a West Coast girl. It is the green and the flowers that I miss the most. Herbs are also readily available and there’s flowers and gardens all year; so what if there is a little rain.
4. If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I really think it would have to be David Bowie. I will be forever changed by his artistry in music, film and fashion.
5. If you had to pick one designer to wear for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?
This is the most difficult question. Wearing different designers recognizes each part of my personality. Who will I be today? It changes day to day or as I mature and evolve year to year. My first love of fashion was through film. Very young I recognized the artistry in clothing. Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, Joan Crawford to name so few. The way the clothing moved when they walked. The fabrics, the fur the opulence. I watched the credits to see who did wardrobe. Most likely it was Edith Head. But the designers today like,
Marni, for Consuelo Castiglioni’s experimentation with fabric and conceptual forms, originality in colour and texture. Definitely wearable art. Brilliant!
Brunello Cucinelli, for the finest offerings from Italian mills. Not fussy, elegant and an equal mix of masculine and feminine. Taking 3 months to produce the fabric and another 5 months to tailor to perfection, it is no wonder it is Luxe.
Prada, Miuccia is a master.
And then there is Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton the list goes on and on. And then the new and exciting designers that emerge every year with a fresh and modern look at fashion.
I find my day to day is Vince and Helmut Lang, clean lines, architectural and easy to wear.
Really, how can I possibly decide?
